Microcars that are Much Smaller than the Popular Smart Cars
The Smart Car might be a small car, but it’s still a big vehicle when compared with everything that came out of the Brutsch factory from 1952 to 1958.
Brutsch produced several different microcars and all of them weighted less than 300 kg. Several hundred kilos less than the Smart Fortwo with a weight of 750 kg.
The biggest and heaviest Brutsch, model Pfeil, weighted an amazing 285 kg and somehow had room for 2 persons. It was powered by a tiny 0,2 liter engine with 10 hp (7 kw). Enough to make it hit the streets with a topspeed of 95 km/h (59 mph).
The smallest Brutsch was the Mopetta. It weighted just 78 kg, but only one person could squeeze into that microcar. The engine was smaller than a moped engine, it was not even 0,1 liter and it produced only 2 hp (1 kw).

Brutsch Mopetta
Most of the Brutsch cars had only three wheels. It looks like it was only the Pfeil that had four wheels, so I’m tempted to call most of the models trikes instead of cars. The small engines also look like something that were taken from small motorcycles, which is another reason to call them trikes instead of cars.
Only 81 cars were produced by Brutsch. Maybe wasn’t so bad since at least one of the Brutsch designs where condemned as dangerous by the German court…
